Salty Bones

Capturing the fleeting moments of early morning and late evening surf sessions in Southern California, the viewer observes the intense natural beauty of California and how surf culture has inhabited such spaces. As you are pulled into the details of my work you will notice certain sketches and artwork that might seem out of place in comparison to the raw moments depicted. The skeletons are an acknowledgment to the rich cultural history of the surfing, as the official state sport surfing has roots that run deep in California’s history and culture. Though it has devolved into complicated social networks and aggressive standoffs, more and more surfers have acknowledged it and are returning to the wonderful and joyful simplicity of gliding across a glassy, green wave.
